Anthony Groce
Project Architect

Mr. Groce has been licensed to practice architecture in the State of California since 1987 and has been a member of the East Bay AIA Board of Directors, American Institute of Architects.

Mr. Groce joined CDA Inc. in November 1996, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge in the field of computer-aided design and drafting and all phases of architectural services.  As a Project Architect at CDA Inc., Mr. Groce has applied his knowledge to facilitate the provision of architectural services on a variety of projects. 

Before joining CDA Inc., Mr. Groce worked as a Staff Architect at Kaplan McLaughlin Diaz in San Francisco from 1994 through 1996. In his position he applied computer aided drafting and design with AutoCAD releases 12, 13, and 14 to produce feasibility studies, Schematic Design, Design Development and Construction Documentation.  In addition, he provided Construction Administration CADD support with Bulletins, Addendum(s) and As-Built drawings.  Projects included Hospitals, Federal Courthouses, Juvenile Detention Facilities, High Rise Multi-use Developments, Office Complexes, a Civic Auditorium, Cinema Multiple Screen Complexes, a Federal Corrections Institution, and a Veterans Administration Unit Care Replacement Facility.

From 1990 through 1994, Mr. Groce was Project Architect with the firm of The Ratcliff Architects in Emeryville.  At this firm Mr. Groce wore many hats.  His positions included Staff Architect, CADD Manager, and Information Systems Manager.   In these positions, Mr. Groce's responsibilities included operation of Auto CADD Release 11 on Unix Workstations to produce Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documentation.  Mr. Groce's mastery of the computer aided drawing systems was so well-developed that he trained 24 CADD users, developed OSHPD seismic bracing detail standards and CADD standards.  Furthermore, he received training and managed a Unix Network that included MacIntosh Network and DOS workstations.  Projects included Kaiser Fresno Hospital, Military facilities, and the updating of the Facilities Management database for Summit Medical Center in Oakland, CA

At Michael Willis & Associates, 1989-1990, Mr. Groce was responsible for providing Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Document production services and Construction Administration services on two projects.  Furthermore, Mr. Groce expanded and organized product literature into CSI Library format and produced office standards.  Projects included residential, commercial and institutional clients, including Stanford University and East Bay Municipal Utility District.

Beginning in 1981 through 1989 Mr. Groce was an intern and Staff Architect with Stone, Marraccini and Patterson in San Francisco.  During his tenure with SMP, Mr. Groce participated as a project team member for health care project types preparing documents for Schematic Design, Design Development and Construction Documentation project phases as well as the Construction Administration phase.  Mr. Groce was also a Project Architect for the Latimer Hall Rooftop Addition Project at the University of California at Berkeley, which was a six-month, fast-track project to expand the chemical research laboratory.  The six-month construction deadline required the project to be divided into three phases consisting of a structural steel phase, a laboratory casework phase and a construction documentation phase to facilitate the accelerated construction schedule.  After finishing the construction documents phase Mr. Groce obtained approval from the State Fire Marshall within a five day period to keep the project on schedule.  Other projects included Methodist Hospital of Memphis, MacNeal Hospital, Berwyn Illinois, Santa Maria Hospital, Queen of the Valley Hospital, Napa, CA, Washington Hospital, Fremont, CA, Kaiser San Francisco, Chevron Ortho Research Center, Richmond, CA, Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, U.C. Berkeley’s Tan Hall, King Khalid Military City Medical Supply Warehouse in Saudi Arabia, and The Terraces of Los Gatos Senior Housing Complex with a Skilled Nursing Facility.

Between 1974 and 1980, Mr. Groce provided drafting services for residential additions and remodels, custom homes, a retaining wall, a truck detailing structure, and a custom deck for the home on the smallest lot in the City of Berkeley.

From 1970 to 1974, Mr. Groce was an intern with Shermon Workmon & Associates in Richmond, CA.  He participated in preparing construction documents for residential remodels and additions, custom home designs, restaurant renovations, industrial facilities and buildings, and several churches, including Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Berkeley, Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Overcoming Holy Church of God AOH, Richmond.

Mr. Groce received an A.B., in Environmental Design, Majoring in Architecture, in 1984.  Also, He has been actively involved in many continuing education programs and received the following certificates:  Construction Specifications Institute, International Conference of Building Officials, and various AIA Continuing Education certificates.
